Left swarm
Swarm · Rapid estimation game
Swarm: which side had more?
Two swarms flash for a blink, then disappear. Pick the larger side without counting to exercise rapid estimation and number sense.
Right swarm
A blink is all you get
Swarm flashes two groups for a moment, removes them, and asks which side held more. The short view blocks careful counting, so the round depends on a quick estimate. Ratios become closer as the run advances.
Choose the larger group correctly to continue. A wrong answer steps the challenge back, keeping the next comparison readable.
What subitizing and number sense exercise
Subitizing describes recognizing a small quantity without counting each item. Swarm extends that at-a-glance idea into larger comparisons. It exercises rapid more-or-less estimation inside the game, with no promise beyond the specific skill being played.
The goal is not exact arithmetic. It is noticing relative quantity before the display vanishes. For the science behind it, read how estimation games train the brain's number sense.
How to play
Swarm takes three steps to learn. Watch both groups during the brief flash, hold the overall quantities in mind, and select the side that had more. Repeat as the differences narrow whenever you want a short number-sense warm-up.
- Watch the flash.
Take in both swarms before they disappear. - Estimate, do not count.
Hold the relative quantities in mind. - Pick the larger side.
Choose left or right and continue the run.
